Deaf poet, editor, and journalist. Pseudonym: “Howard Glyndon.” Née Redden. Educated
at St. Louis Missouri Institution for Deaf Mutes. Prolific periodical poet. Assistant
editor of *St. Louis Presbyterian* (1857-1858). Civil War correspondent for *St. Louis
Republican*, then foreign correspondent for the *Republican*, *New York Sun*, and
*New York Times* (mainly in France and Italy). Married Edward W. Searing in 1876.
Publications include *Idyls of Battle and Poems of the Rebellion* (1864), *Sounds
