Poet, writer, and journal editor. Pseudonym: “Sholto.” Born in Country Limerick. Apprenticed to an apothecary at age 13. Contributed to *Lady’s Magazine*, *London Magazine*, *Dublin University Magazine*, among other periodicals. Editor of *Liverpool Journal*. Moved to America in after being declared bankrupt in 1852.
