Hamilton, Thomas, Captain (M)

Poet, novelist, and travel writer. Born in Glasgow. Educated at the University of Glasgow. Joined the army in 1810. Served in Nova Scotia, new Brunswick, and France. Retired to Edinburgh in 1818. Travelled to Italy (1829) and the United States. Married twice, Anne Montgomery on 14 November 1820 and Maria Frances Geslip on 15 February 1834. Friends with William Wordsworth.
