Poet, essayist, children’s writer. Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, and lived with
her family in Newburyport from 1808. Daughter of Benjamin Gould. Often wrote about
her father’s military career in her poetry and maintained a close relationship with
her father throughout her life. Began writing for periodicals in her mid-thirties.
Gould never married. Author of *Poems* (1832, 1836, 1841), *The Rising Monument* (1840),
*The Mother’s Dream, and Other Poems* (1853), *Hymns and Other Poems for Children*
