Poet, dramatist, and translator. Pursued writing professionally instead of working
as a governess or teacher. Published her first poem in *Pocket Magazine* in 1818 and
a verse drama titled *The Poet’s Child* two years later, which was published by her
brother Benson Earle Hill. Honorary member of the Dramatic Authors Society. Moved
to London in 1827 and remained there until her death. Acquainted with Letitia Elizabeth
Landon. Translator of Madame de Stael’s 1807 French novel *Corinne, ou, L’Italie*,
which was the novel’s first translation into English and was reprinted through most
