Poet and essayist. Son of Peter George Patmore. Turned from poetry to literary essays
to support himself after his father failed in a railway speculation. On 11 April 1846,
Adelaide Ann Procter successfully interceded on his behalf to have Monckton Milnes
recommend him to a position in the British Museum, which he held until 31 October
1865. Married his first wife, Emily Augusta Andrews on 11 September 1847. Their youngest
son, Henry, published a number of poems before his untimely death. Contributed to
*The Germ* and the *St James’s Gazette*. Author of several volumes of poetry including
*Poems* (1844), *Tamerton Church Tower and other Poems* (1853, 1854), and *Poems*
