Brinsley Sheridan. Daughter of Thomas (Tom) Sheridan. Pseudonyms: “C. E. N.,” “N.”
Contributed to *Fraser’s Magazine*, *Macmillan’s Magazine*, *The Keepsake*, and the
*New Monthly Magazine*. Married George Norton on 30 June 1827. She lobbied to change
child custody laws after losing custody of her children to her husband after their
separation. Also campaigned for women’s property rights. Became Lady Stirling Maxwell
upon her marriage to second husband Sir William Stirling Maxwell on 1 March 1877.
