include “E. Conder Gray,” “A. J. P.”, “A. N. Mount Rose,” “A. F. Scot,” “Rupert II,”
“H. A. Page,” “P. J,” and “Paul May.” Born in Montrose. Attended University of Edinburgh
without graduating. General literary adviser to Strahan publishers, working as an
editor for their periodicals (including *Good Words*), and later Hurst and Blackett
(1882-1888). Established the publishers Marshall, Japp, & Co in 1880, which was purchased
by T. Fisher Unwin in 1882. Close friend and correspondent of Robert Louis Stevenson.
