Poet, novelist, children’s author. Pseudonym: “Orris”. Hugely prolific and popular poet. Born in Boston, Lincolnshire, to an Evangelical family. Lived in London from 1850. Member of Barbara Bodichon and Bessie Raynor Parkes’s Portfolio Society. Considered for the Poet Laureateship on the death of Tennyson in 1892.
