Poet, art critic, translator, and literary editor. Brother of Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Christina Rossetti. Member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, formed in 1848, and associated with the movement his whole life. Longtime employee of the Excise Office from 1845-1894. An admirer and biographer of Percy Shelley, authoring many articles about him for *The Athenaeum*, as well as a multi-volume memoir.
