Children’s writer, poet, editor. Pseudonym: “Susan Coolidge.” Unmarried. Born in Cleveland, Ohio. Family moved to New Haven, Connecticut, in 1855. Educated at a boarding school and then the Select Family School in Hanover, New Hampshire. Close friends with Helen Hunt Jackson, with whom Woolsey worked as a nurse during the Civil War.
