Poet, short story writer, novelist, and children’s writer. Née Wilkins. Born in Randolph, Massachusetts. Her family were orthodox Congregationalists. Moved with her family to Brattleboro, Vermont, in 1867. Frequently wrote about life in New England. Educated at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary from 1870 to 1871.
