Poet, professor, Church of England clergyman, and author of historical books for boys. Born in London. Educated at King’s College, London, and Lincoln College, Oxford. Ordained in 1853. Curate in Charlton, Wiltshire (1853-1856). Employed as a teacher at various grammar schools (1857-1880). Professor of Latin at University College, London (1880-1892). Author of *Two Thousand Years Ago: or, The Adventures of a Roman Boy* (1886), *The Legend of Saint Vitalis, and Other Poems* (1887), *The Fall of Athens: A Story of the Peloponnesian War* (1895).
