Noel, Roden, Earl of Gainsborough (M)

b. 27 August 1834. d. 26 May 1894. Nationality: English. VIAF.
Poet and essayist. Born in London. Spent much of his childhood with his mother’s family in Tolleymore. Considered himself an Irishman. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the Cambridge Apostles. Married Alice Maria de Broë in 1863. Became a groom of the privy chamber to Queen Victoria in 1867. Wrote *A Life of Lord Byron* (1890). Poetry volumes include *Behind the Veil, and other Poems* (1863), *Beatrice, and other Poems* (1868), *A Little Child’s Monument* (1881), *The Red Flag and other Poems* (1872), and the verse drama *The House of Ravensburg* (1877).
