“A. L. Waring.” Born at Plas-y-Felin, Neath, in Wales. As a child moved to Bristol
with her Quaker family. Niece of the sibling poets Samuel and S. Waring. Converted
from a Quaker to the Anglican Church on 15 May 1842, and then started composing hymns.
Unmarried. Active supporter of the Discharged Prisoners’ Aid Society. Author of *Hymns
