Poet and novelist. Educated at home under her father, Dr. George Junkin, a professor and minister. In 1857 married John Thomas Lewis Preston, a professor of Latin and Civil War general. She supported the Confederacy. Contributor to *Harper’s Magazine* and *Lippincott’s*. Author of *Beechenbrook: A Rhyme of the War* (1865, 1866), *Old Song and New* (1870), *For Love’s Sake* (1886), *Colonial Ballads, Sonnets, and Other Verse* (1887). Biographical information: *ANB*.
