Poet and illustrator. Alternative signature: “O. Herford.” Born in Sheffield but spent childhood in the Chicago and Boston where his father served as a Unitarian minister. Educated at Antioch College, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Slade School in London. Contributor to *Harper’s Weekly*, *Ladies’ Home Journal*, and *St. Nicholas*.
