Poet, fiction writer, and journalist. Alternative signature: “W. H. Pollock.” The second son of Sir William Frederick Pollock, 2nd Baronet. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. Called to the bar in 1874. Lectured at the Royal Institution in London. Married Emma Jane Pipon on 11 January 1876. Editor of the Saturday Review (1884-1894), through which he became close friends with Andrew Lang, Louis Stevenson, Rudyard Kipling, Oscar Wilde, Egerton Castle, W. E. Henley, and Henry Irving. Contributed to Longman’s. Poetry volumes include Songs and Rhymes: English and French (1882), and Verses of Two Tongues (1884).
