          <l>With plumy pine-trees ever sighing <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="b">round</rhyme> ;</l>
          <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">And</seg> through dark boughs you catch the silver <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="a">sheen</rhyme>,</l>
          <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">And</seg> hear the river-<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="b">sound</rhyme> :</l>

          <l>While clamorous-crows across the lowlands <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c">call</rhyme>,</l>

          <l>Or perching idly on the grey church <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c">wall</rhyme></l>
          <l>Where fibrous ivy <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="d">clings</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>Here stands the old farm-house, with moss-grown <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="e">eaves</rhyme>,</l>
          <l>Where sparrows chirp and building martins <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="f">hide</rhyme> ;</l>
          <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">Its</seg> porch a very bower of dancing <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="e">leaves</rhyme>,</l>
          <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">Its</seg> casements opened <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="f">wide</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>Above the golden thatch the sweet-brier <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="d">flings</rhyme></l>
          <l>Its long green arms and pink, shell-tinted <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="g">flowers</rhyme> ;</l>
          <l>And soft bird-music from the garden <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="d">rings</rhyme></l>
          <l>Through long, long summer <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="g">hours</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>While round her brows the mellow light hath <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="h">made</rhyme></l>
          <l>A glory as she <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="i">knits</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>Swift glide her glancing needles to and <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="j">fro</rhyme>,</l>
          <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">Her</seg> ball of yarn moves softly at her <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="k">feet</rhyme> ;</l>
          <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">Her</seg> cheeks are pale, her locks are white as <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="j">snow</rhyme>,</l>
          <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">Her</seg> eyes are strangely <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="k">sweet</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>Something out-lived, and something yet to <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="l">come</rhyme></l>
          <l>Have set on her calm face the seal it <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="m">wears</rhyme> ;</l>
          <l>You know that when those patient lips are <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="l">dumb</rhyme></l>
          <l>Her soul is full of <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeHalf" label="m">prayers</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>A dream perchance it may be called,—ah, <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="n">well</rhyme>,</l>
          <l>Such dreams are not in <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="o">vain</rhyme> !</l>

          <l>“ I had three children, sir ; five years a<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="j">go</rhyme></l>
          <l>A fever came, and swept my two a<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="p">way</rhyme> ;</l>
          <l>It was to me a time of frenzied <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="j">woe</rhyme>,</l>
          <l>I could not weep nor <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="p">pray</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>“ No tender thought of comfort came to <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="q">me</rhyme>,</l>

          <l>The cruel wind had stripped my household <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="q">tree</rhyme>,</l>
          <l>And left but one small <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="r">leaf</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>My one wee darling—quiet as a <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="s">mouse</rhyme>,</l>
          <l>Watched me with large, sad <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="t">eyes</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>But when the Christmas chimes began to <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="u">ring</rhyme>,</l>
          <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">I missed them</seg> most of <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c">all</rhyme> !</l>

          <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">My</seg> goodman slumbered too ; and awful <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="v">gloom</rhyme></l>
          <l>Had settled down on <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="q">me</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>Ah me ! I shivered in my woe, and <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="w">wrung</rhyme></l>
          <l>My wild hands una<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="x">wares</rhyme> !</l>

          <l>“ And was I dreaming, sir ?—I scarcely <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="j">know</rhyme></l>
          <l>(The carols sounded louder in the <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="k">street</rhyme>) :</l>
          <l>But a bright angel, white as driven <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="j">snow</rhyme>,</l>
          <l>Sat in each darling’s <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="k">seat</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>“ I cannot tell, it might have been a <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="y">dream</rhyme>,</l>

          <l>Angels were in the house—I caught the <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="y">gleam</rhyme></l>
          <l>Of wings around me <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="z">cast</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>Naught lieth waste—for Nature’s hand sup<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="t">plies</rhyme></l>
          <l>Each void with fresher <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="a1">grace</rhyme>.</l>

          <l>“ And in the heart no blanks unfilled re<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="b1">main</rhyme>,</l>
          <l>Each empty seat shall have its angel <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c1">guest</rhyme> ;</l>
          <l>Our saddest losses bring our highest <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="b1">gain</rhyme> ;—</l>
          <l>Through sorrow cometh <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c1">rest</rhyme>.</l>
