               <l>Waked Sion’s music on a foreign <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="l">shore</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l>But oft, his tide where broad Euphrates <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="m">rolls</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Felt the keen insult pierce their patriot <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="m">souls</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l rendition="#pom_8443_incid_line-break">And still, as homeward turn’d the longing<lb/><rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="n">eye</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Gush’d many a tear, and issued many a <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="n">sigh</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Yet not for ever flows the fruitless <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="o">grief</rhyme> !</l>
               <l>Cyrus and Vengeance fly to their re<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="o">lief</rhyme>.</l>

               <l rendition="#pom_8443_incid_line-break">And wields with mighty arm his hallow’d<lb/><rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="p">sword</rhyme>.</l>
               <l>Reluctant realms their sullen homage <rhyme label="a" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">pay</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>As on the heaven-led hero bends his <rhyme label="a" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">way</rhyme></l>
               <l>Opposing myriads press the fatal <rhyme label="d" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">plain</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>And Sardis bars her two-leaved brass in <rhyme label="d" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">vain</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l>Her secret hoards the hostile bands un<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="q">fold</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>And grasp with greedy joy the cavern’d <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="q">gold</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>Firm to their end, mid scenes of rural <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="s">love</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Unsoften’d by those scenes the victors <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeHalf" label="s">move</rhyme> :</l>

               <l>In vain the ram it’s vigorous shock ap<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="v">plies</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l>The mines descend, th’ assailing towers a<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="v">rise</rhyme></l>
               <l>’Till Treason comes the bafiled chief to <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="w">aid</rhyme> :</l>
               <l>And briefer arts succeed the long block<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="w">ade</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>And art and nature rear their mounds in <rhyme label="d" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">vain</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>’Midst her gay palaces and festal <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeFeminine" label="d1">bowers</rhyme></l>
               <l rendition="#pom_8443_incid_line-break">Flutter’d in sportive maze the rose crown’d<lb/><rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeFeminine" label="d1">hours</rhyme> :</l>
               <l>Loud burst the roar of merriment a<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="e1">round</rhyme>,</l>

               <l>And wage in safer fields the wars of <rhyme label="s" type="dvpp:rhymeEye dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">love</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>Bid the vase circle, torn from Salem’s <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="m1">shrine</rhyme>.</l>
