               <l><hi rendition="#pom_12431_incid_small-caps">Bright</hi> sunshine over everything—</l>
               <l>Catching and gilding with its magic touch</l>
               <l>The burnished domes and spires</l>
               <l>Of this fair city of a northern <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="a">clime</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Where countless waterways reflect</l>
               <l>Man’s stony, strange devices of a bygone <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="a">time</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>When Nature revelled in her loneliness as queen</l>
               <l>Upon the gray, grim rocks which girt blue Maelar’s <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="b">deep</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l>Whilst all around—o’er forest and <emph>holm</emph>—</l>
               <l>A soft, blue summer haze did hide</l>
               <l>The whole bright world below,</l>
               <l rendition="#pom_12431_indent">In one enchanting <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="b">sleep</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>That dim, that magic time of yore,</l>
               <l>When Vikings brave and free—</l>
               <l>Fit children of the Asgard heroes <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c">old</rhyme>—</l>
               <l>Held sway o’er this calm Venice <seg ana="dvpp:sdEpistrophe">of the <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="d">North</rhyme></seg></l>
               <l>As Odin’s kingdom, undisputed, <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c">bold</rhyme>.</l>
               <l>Their reign is past, and that of him—</l>
               <l>The blue-eyed David <seg ana="dvpp:sdEpistrophe">of the <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeIdentical" label="d">North</rhyme></seg>*—</l>
               <l>Who bare his country’s wrongs, the tyrant’s yoke, awhile ;</l>
               <l>Then, in an instant—as yon summer sun</l>
               <l>Blazed out—dispersing fierily the foe,</l>
               <l>With one stern warning : ‘ <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="d">Forth</rhyme> ! ’</l>

               <l>Nature still holds her regal sway unchecked</l>
               <l rendition="#pom_12431_indent">E’en to the city doors,†</l>
               <l rendition="#pom_12431_indent">Where Lake and Sea do meet at <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="e">last</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>And stately ships, with flags of liberty,</l>
               <l>Majestically float forth, as in the days long <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="e">past</rhyme>.</l>
               <l>The silver wave still laps the shore</l>
               <l>Of many a moss-grown berg and pine-clad <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="f">hill</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Girding the city in on every side,</l>
               <l>Which tint with thousand shades the mirror’d blue beneath,</l>
               <l>Proclaiming, by the warble of their birds,</l>
               <l rendition="#pom_12431_indent">Stockholm is Nature’s <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="f">still</rhyme> !</l>
