               <l>There women laboured in the <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="g">sun</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Uncouthly clad, and sun-em<rhyme label="b" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">browned</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>The old, the weak, the little <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="g">one</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Upon the stony furrowed <rhyme label="b" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">ground</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>Quoth he : “ Here nature hath her <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="i">way</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>And shows no other orna<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="h">ment</rhyme></l>
               <l>Than in the air and sunshine <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="i">play</rhyme>.</l>
               <l>Ah ! what a sorry, sordid <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="j">sight</rhyme></l>
               <l>Doth Beauty thus unfashioned <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="k">make</rhyme> !—</l>
               <l>You, city dames, to such a <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="j">plight</rhyme></l>
               <l>Would bring the binding weed and <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="k">rake</rhyme>.”</l>

               <l>“ Wild flowers : oh ! buy wild flowers,” she <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="m">said</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>And looked into his face to <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="l">see</rhyme></l>
               <l>What answer there was to be <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeHalf" label="m">read</rhyme>.</l>
               <l>Sir Self passed on the other <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="n">side</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>While from his hand a pittance <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="o">came</rhyme>.</l>
               <l>Quoth he : “ This nature hath no <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="n">pride</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Nor knoweth how to blush for <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="o">shame</rhyme>.”</l>

               <l>Where narrow door and knotted <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="p">pane</rhyme></l>
               <l>Scant light and less of air bes<rhyme label="d" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">tow</rhyme> :</l>

               <l>And children swarmed and gambolled <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="q">by</rhyme>.</l>
               <l>Quoth he : “ Among so many, <rhyme label="f" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">where</rhyme></l>
               <l>May modesty find room to <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="q">lie</rhyme> ?”</l>

               <l>A girl upon a heavy <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="r">load</rhyme></l>
               <l>Beside the path had sat her <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="s">down</rhyme> :</l>
               <l>“ Will no one help you on your <rhyme label="i" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">way</rhyme> ?”</l>
               <l>“ <seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">I</seg> want no help,” the girl rep<rhyme label="n" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">lied</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>“ <seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">I</seg> bear this burden day by <rhyme label="i" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">day</rhyme>.”</l>
               <l>Quoth he : “ This is true labour’s <rhyme label="n" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">pride</rhyme>.”</l>

               <l>A failing sister’s pack in<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="u">creased</rhyme>.</l>
               <l>Then thought Sir Self : “ With whip and <rhyme label="r" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">goad</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>These women were like laden <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="u">beast</rhyme> !”</l>

               <l>Whence light from countless windows <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="v">flew</rhyme>,</l>

               <l>Came women forth, with saucy <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="x">word</rhyme></l>
               <l>And cry. Quoth he : “ Can this be <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="w">well</rhyme></l>
               <l>When women like the cattle <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="x">herd</rhyme> ?”</l>

               <l>With crime without and want wi<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="z">thin</rhyme> ?”</l>

               <l>Till heaven’s face seemed dotted <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeHalf" label="a1">o’er</rhyme></l>
               <l>With feeble sparks, where wheel and <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="b1">loom</rhyme></l>
               <l>Went on their ceaseless whirl and <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c1">swing</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>As busy hand and eager <rhyme label="q" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">eye</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Mid shuttle’s flight and iron’s <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c1">ring</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Their still-renewing taskwork <rhyme label="q" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">ply</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>Marked sottish rout or maddened <rhyme label="i" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">fray</rhyme> ;</l>

               <l>Old beldams, and the sluttish <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="e1">brood</rhyme></l>
               <l>Of girl-folk gossiped, laughed, and <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="d1">droned</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>As drone the idle, laugh the <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="e1">lewd</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>Beshames the gloom, and mocks the <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="f1">dawn</rhyme>.</l>
               <l>Still as the restless watches <rhyme label="a1" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">wore</rhyme></l>
               <l>Sir Self the stony footway <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="g1">paced</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Till morning waved the city <rhyme label="a1" type="dvpp:rhymeHalf dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">o’er</rhyme></l>
               <l>Her filmy wings gold-inter<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="g1">laced</rhyme>.</l>
