               <l>Ah, ’tis Charles Maurice, the young ab<rhyme label="f" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">bé</rhyme> !</l>
               <l>Thou art of princely <rhyme label="c" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">birth</rhyme> ;</l>

               <l>And woe betide Charles Maurice</l>
               <l>From the wrath of cowl’d <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeFeminine" label="i">gnomes</rhyme> !</l>
               <l>So he seeks a low-bent archway</l>
               <l>Within the grim old <rhyme label="g" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">wall</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Where never the laughing footstep</l>

               <l>Then starts to hear, though he knows no <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="k">fear</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>A sound which tells him life is <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="k">near</rhyme>—</l>
               <l>That he is not a<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeHalf" label="j">lone</rhyme>.</l>
               <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">He</seg> turns—the passage is dark as night,</l>
               <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">He</seg> listens—but all is <rhyme label="b" type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine dvpp:rhymeCrossStanza">still</rhyme>,</l>

               <l>Through the cavernous entry’s <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="n">gloom</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l>But a low, faint cry is the sole re<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="m">ply</rhyme>,</l>
               <l rendition="#pom_327_indent-2">As the voice of one who is come to <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="m">lie</rhyme></l>
               <l rendition="#pom_327_indent">On the brink of a yawning <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="n">tomb</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>A small and sable-robèd form</l>

               <l>The form is that of maidenhood ;</l>
               <l>And, in that boyish <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="t">heart</rhyme>,</l>
