                  <l rendition="#pom_2027_incid_indent">Sitting upon a heap of shards and cinders ;</l>
                  <l>Whom when I greeted passing, “ Stop !” said he,</l>
                  <l>“ Thou must not that way go !” “And wherefore not?”</l>
                  <l>“ Because I disallow it. Stay, my son ;</l>
                  <l>O hear me, gentle son ! Close, close thine eyes,</l>
                  <l>That I may teach thy pathway.—Wilt thou not ?</l>
                  <l>Audacious vagabond ! rejecting him</l>

                  <l>Upon the seashore in a rising tide.</l>

                  <l>The broad smooth strand familiar, and the sea</l>
                  <l>Roll’d calmly shoreward, murmuring round my steps</l>

                  <l>Melodious wail of anthems, waxing <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c">loud</rhyme>,</l>

                  <l>To mount the steep of heav’n and find at <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="j">length</rhyme></l>

                  <l>Wind in the crannies whistling and sighing ;</l>

                  <l>Sending a sluggish bleary <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="n">fume</rhyme></l>
                  <l>To eddy around the rotten <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="o">thatch</rhyme> ;</l>
                  <l><seg ana="dvpp:sdAnaphora">And the</seg> beetles and centipedes ran a<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="p">bout</rhyme></l>

                  <l>My talisman’s greater than Solomon’s <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="s">Ring</rhyme>—</l>
                  <l>All wisdom and power to me be<rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="t">long</rhyme> !”</l>
