               <l>And soothe his dying <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="b">pain</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>For love and care e’en yet he <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="a">feels</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Though love and care be <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="b">vain</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l>’Tis sad that, after all these <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="c">years</rhyme>,</l>

               <l>To chase the rolling <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="f">shot</rhyme> :</l>

               <l>Grey scores of Russians <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="j">forth</rhyme>—</l>
               <l>Beneath that slaughter wild and <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="k">grim</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Nor man nor dog would <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="l">run</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l>He stood by us, and we by <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="k">him</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Till the great fight was <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="l">done</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>Though unrelieved, he kept his <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeEye" label="m">post</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>And his duty <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="n">well</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>Like autumn leaves our army <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="o">waned</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>But still the dog was <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="p">there</rhyme> :</l>

               <l>He cheered us through those hours of <lb/><rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="q">gloom</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l>We fed him in our <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="r">dearth</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l>Through him the trench’s living <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="q">tomb</rhyme></l>
               <l>Rang loud with reckless <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="r">mirth</rhyme> ;</l>
               <l>And thus, when peace returned once <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="s">more</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>After the city’s <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="t">fall</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>That veteran home in pride we <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="s">bore</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>And loved him, one and <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="t">all</rhyme>.</l>

               <l>Hands which had patted him Jay <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="w">chill</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>Voices which called were <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="x">dumb</rhyme>,</l>
               <l>And footsteps that he watched for <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="w">still</rhyme></l>

               <l>Young Fusiliers unborn shall <rhyme type="dvpp:rhymeMasculine" label="a1">find</rhyme></l>
