I
loved you many years ago
In life’s sweet, fair spring-tide ;
So many, many years ago,
I thought the love had died.
And yet to-day old memories
Awoke, and waking, cried.
They wept for that which might have been,
That now can never be ;
E’en heart and soul ache yearningly,
I am no longer free.
Alas ! that dreams of our past dream
To-day should come to me.
