Milton.

Alcaics.

O mighty-mouth’d inventor of harmonies,1
O skill’d to sing of Time or Eternity,2
God-gifted organ-voice of England,3
Milton, a name to resound for ages ;4
Whose Titan angels, Gabriel, Abdiel,5
Starr’d from Jehovah’s gorgeous armouries,6
Tower, as the deep-domed empyrëan7
Rings to the roar of an angel onset—8
Me rather all that bowery loneliness,9
The brooks of Eden mazily murmuring,10
And bloom profuse and cedar arches11
Charm, as a wanderer out in ocean,12
Where some refulgent sunset of India13
Streams o’er a rich ambrosial ocean isle,14
And crimson-hued the stately palmwoods15
Whisper in odorous heights of even.16
