Major Victorian poet. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he joined the
Cambridge Apostles and became close friends with Arthur Henry Hallam. Named Poet Laureate
in 1850, the same year In Memoriam A. H. H. was published as an elegy for Hallam. Married Emily Sellwood on 13 June 1850. Became
the 1st Baron Tennyson in 1883. Buried in the Poets’ Corner of Westminster Abbey.
