Poet, journal proprietor, and novelist. Pseudonyms: Cheviot Tichburn, T. Hall. Contributed to a number of periodicals, including Arliss’s Pocket Magazine, New Monthly Magazine, and the London Magazine. Published six issues of his periodical, The Boetian, in 1824. Established a publishing business with John Ebers in 1826. Married Anne Frances Ebers on 11 October 1826. Edited Bentley’s Miscellany from 1840 to 1841, when he left to found his own periodical, Ainsworth’s Magazine, which lasted until 1854. Took over as proprietor of Bentley’s in 1854, and also owned and edited the New Monthly Magazine from 1845 until 1870. Author of Poems (1822). Biographical information: ODNB. (JS)
