Educated at Faringham Academy, Maine. Married three times: to Marshall Taylor in 1851 (divorced in 1857), to Benjamin Akers in 1860, then (following his death) to Elijah M. Allen in 1865. Worked as assistant editor of the Portland (Maine) Transcript. Widely published poetry in American periodicals, including the Atlantic Monthly.
