Poet, correspondent, memoirist, playwright, and novelist. Born in London. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. War correspondent in Manchuria for the Morning Post during the Russo-Japanese War, then stayed in St. Petersburg as a special correspondent. Author of his autobiography The Puppet Show of Memory (1922), memoirs based on his war experience, and two plays The Black Prince (1902) and Gaston de Foix (1903). Appointed Order of the British Empire in 1918 for his service as a staff officer of the Royal Air Force during World War I. Friends with Auberon Herbert. Biographical information: ODNB. (CC)
