Poet and clergyman. Alternative signature: S. Baring-Gould. Born in Dix’s Field, Exeter. Son of Edward Baring-Gould and Sophia Charlotte. Educated at King’s College, London, and Clare College, Cambridge. Worked as a priest and teacher. Married Grace Taylor in 1868.
