Poet, journalist, editor, biographer, and historian. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin. Editor of Patriot, co-founder of and contributor to Dublin Inquisitor, editor of Home News. Moved to London in 1828. Became interested in spiritualism later in life, and was also an important member of the committee of the Literary Fund.
