Arbor Leigh(inspired by Elizabeth Barrett Browning's novel-poem Aurora Leigh). Born in London. Baptized in the Church of England but family were Quakers. Friends with Herbert Spencer. Influenced by post-Darwinism. Moved to in Germany in 1883, where she married the artist Ignatz Guggenberger in May 1883, afterwards living together with him in London and Munich. She separated from Guggenberger, lived briefly in Merano, Italy, and then in the late 1880s moved to London and became involved in the anarchist movement. Contributed to The Fortnightly Review, The Modern Review, and The Nineteenth Century, as well as anarchist periodicals such as Liberty and Freedom.
