Chartist poet. Born in Sunderland. Friend and business partner of James Williams, with whom he co-founded the Sunderland Chartist Association in 1838 and was imprisoned 1840-1841. Elected the executive of the National Chartist Association in 1841. Emigrated to New Zealand for two years and worked in the whaling industry (1842-1844).
