Poet, art historian, and professor. Won the Newdigate prize for poetry in 1890. Began working for the British Museum in 1893 where he helped to grow the Asian art collection. Became the Keeper of the Department of Prints and Drawings in 1932. Received the Order of the Companions of Honour (1932). Friends with W.B. Yeats, Thomas Sturge Moore, and Charles Ricketts.
