Poet, novelist, historian, topographical writer, and travel writer. Née Kempe. Cousin of Frances Rossetti, the mother of Dante Gabriel and Christina Rossetti. Born in Surrey. Took painting lessons with Thomas Stothard and subsequently with his son, Charles Alfred Stothard, whom she married in 1818. In 1822, after his death, she married Edward Atkyns Bray, a vicar from Tavistock, Devon. Friend and correspondent of Robert Southey. Prolific writer. Biographical information: ODNB. (SP, AC)
