Poet. Born in Enfield, Middlesex. Son of John Clarke and Ann Isabella (née Stott). Brother of childrens’ book writer Isabella Jane Towers, and close childhood friends with John Keats. Educated at a private school in Enfield where his father was the headmaster. Worked as a lecturer at his father’s school and later as a publisher in London in partnership with Henry Leigh Hunt, eventually beginning a career as a public lecturer afterward.
