Poet and literary critic. Born in Paris. Father of François Colletet. Assisted Cardinal Richelieu in founding the Académie Française in 1635, establishing it as an authority on the French language. Renowned for his contributions to poetic theory including the epigram and sonnet. Undertook a history of French literature, much of which was lost in 1870.
