Canon of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh (1898-1909). Married. Author of Lectures on the Gospel According to St. John (1863). Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for In Greek Waters, published on 18 June 1892, lists the poet as Rev. G. J. Cowley Brown, of 9 Grosvenor St, Edinburgh (NLS Dep 341/370).
