W. A. Craigie.Born in Dundee. Son of James Craigie and Christina Gow. Educated at St. Andrews University and Balliol College, Oxford. Lived in Chicago from 1925-36. Worked as a lecturer at several institutions, and as an editor or contributor for four different dictionaries: Oxford’s New English Dictionary, the University of Chicago’s Dictionary of American English, his own Dictionary of the Older Scottish Tongue, and a supplement to G. Vígfússon’s Icelandic Dictionary. Married Jessie Kinmond Hutchen on 28 June 1897. In addition to his lexicography work, he is also the editor of Specimens of Icelandic Rímur (1952), a survey of Icelandic literature. Biographical information: ODNB. (BGL)
