F. Marion Crawford.Born in Tuscany, Italy. Son of the sculptor, Thomas Crawford (1813–57) and Louisa Cutler Ward. Brother of Mary Crawford Fraser (Mrs. Hugh Fraser) and nephew of Julia Ward Howe, both prolific writers. Educated at Cambridge University, University of Heidelberg, and the University of Rome. Married Elizabeth, the American Civil War Union General, Hiram Berdan’s daughter in 1884. His writing career encompasses romantic novels set in various global locations including Germany, historical romances, and supernatural short stories. Died in Sorrento, Italy of a heart attack.
