Poet. Born in Brookhill, Ireland. Son of Michael Doheny and Ellen (née Keley). Educated briefly at Maher's Classical Academy for nine months, then self-educated afterwards. Entered King’s Inn, Dublin in 1835 and was called to the Irish bar in 1838. Lived in New York after fleeing persecution in Ireland for insurrectional behaviour. Married Ellen O’Dwyer in June 1838.
