Joined the Royal Canadian Rifles in 1861 and the Army Control Depot in 1868 until retirement in 1871. Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for his poem On the Bridge, published 21 July 1883, gives his address as Grange Lodge, 10 Grange Gardens, Eastbourne (NLS Dep 341/369).
