Mrs Harriet Downing.Née Bourne. Born in London. Baptized on 12 August 1778. Married twice, George William Downing on 29 May 1803 and Charles Martin Oliver on 29 April 1829. Provided financially for her family after her husband (Downing) declared bankruptcy in 1814. Continued use her last name “Downing” in publications after she re-married. Corresponded with Charles Dickens. Friends with John Abraham Heraud. Author of Mary; or, Female Friendship: A Poem in Twelve Books (1816), The Child of the Tempest (1821), The Bride of Sicily (1830), Satan in Love, A Dramatic Poem (1840), and Remembrances of a Monthly Nurse (1836, 1852).
