Diplomat and poet. Began working for the East India Company in 1805. Travelled several times for diplomatic missions. Elected MP for Boston, Lincolnshire and was made deputy colonial secretary and commissioner of stamps in Cape Town in 1820. Married Louisa Amelia Wilson on 10 June 1820. Returned to England in 1824.
