Poet. The Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for the poem published in the 12 January 1878 issue gives the poet as F. G. Elliott and the address as 17 Middle St, Hastings (NLS Dep 341/371; 341/293). The 1881 England census does not list F. G. Elliott at this address, which is the home of the grainer Robert Elliott, his wife Sarah E. Elliott, and their five children; presumably the poet is a relation. (AC)
