Lawyer, politician, and poet. According to ODNB , “no complete collection of his poems, or of his speeches, ever appeared, greatly admired though these were in his time.” Erskine became the advocate and state councillor in Scotland in 1783 and in August of that year, the Lord Advocate, but lost the post soon after.
