Poet, army officer, and politician. Known for satirical verse. Son of John Fitzpatrick, second Baron Gowran, and Evelyn (née Leveson-Gower). Close friends with Charles James Fox, Educated at Westminster School and Caen Military Academy. Worked in the Grenadier guards, in which he fought in the American War of Independence, before taking up a parliamentary career as a prominent whig figure. Appointed as secretary at war in 1806 under Prime Minister Grenville, but the position was shortlived as the government fell in 1807. Publications include a few volumes of satirical verse, including The Bath Picture (1771) and Dorinda: A Town Eclogue (1775). Biographical information: ODNB. (BGL)
