Poet and playwright. Cousin of poet Phineas Fletcher. Born in Rye, Sussex. Educated at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Collaborated with playwright Francis Beaumont (1606-1616). Their collective work was produced in a folio entitled Comedies and Tragedies written by Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher, Gentlemen (1647). Collaborated with Shakespeare for three plays: The History of Cardenio (1613), Henry VIII (1613), and The Two Noble Kinsmen (1634). Chief playwright for the King’s Company (1613).
